Decided to finally watch this beast of a film (late at night, alone, and in the dark) after hearing so many people reave about it, needless to say I was not disappointed.
Gone Girl is an absolutely brilliant movie. I hate to go with the ‘mainstream’ crowd on this one, but I want to give it the title it deserves. I’ve never seen anything quite like it and doubt I ever will. The acting is great, the soundtrack is better, the plot is amazing, it’s just great all around. I love a movie that makes you think, feel, and discuss. This one sure did make me think, mostly about how much of a piece of work that Amy girl was. Such an incredible screenplay, I, for once, actually felt like I knew the characters, I grieved, I hated, I smiled. Not many movies have done that to me.
I also do enjoy a good mystery/thriller, and Gone Girl did not fail to satisfy. It was that right mix of Sherlock and Basic Instinct that I just really enjoyed watching. You didn’t want to turn away from the screen, and you yearned for what the faith was of the characters you grew to like. It also had the element of “this really could happen”. You see all these tabloid, cable TV shows rambling on about murders, kidnappings, rapes, etc. and it leads you to wonder, was there possibly and Amy behind some of them? How many times has someone been toyed, while you sat there and watched? Makes you think, doesn’t it?
Funny, this is actually my first positive review, and also my shortest. It’s most likely because I don’t have much to say about it other than how great it was. My specialty isn’t so much reviewing good movies, it’s reviewing the bad ones. I but a lot more passion and effort into things I don’t like, kind of like Amy and Nick I guess. That took a bit of a dark and random turn. I really did enjoy this movie and am actually re watching it right now. Definitely recommend it, I’m almost willing to say it deserves its hype. To be completely honest, I’m about to go to bed, and I’m a little bit nervous that a killer, psychopathic Amy is going to come at me with a boxcutter.
