If you're into 'kinky' stimulated sex, lack of a decent plot, and laughably bad dialog, this movie is for you. I'm positive there's porn out there just like this for free, so why are people paying to watch it? Well, I know for one I watched it out of curiosity, but the rest of the people who've seen it, I can't speak for.
The controversy surrounding this book obviously found it's way to the movie, I've read things from how it glorifies rape and abuse, to how it inaccurately represents the BDSM community. All I got from the movie was that this Christian fellow had a couple of deep rooted issues, I didn't really get any vibes of rape or abuse, everything that happened looked pretty consensual to me, even the ending scenes, Ana allowed him to give her 'the worst pain imaginable'. And as for BDSM, I honestly have no clue how accurate it was, that's not really my department.
I don't really know what else to say about this film. I knew it was going to be bad, which it was, and maybe since I knew how terrible it was going to be, I could tolerate it? Who knows! I don't really think this movie is worthy of all the controversy it's getting. I didn't find it offensive or demeaning or anything, it was just cheesy and poorly written, just a bad movie in general. But that's just my opinion, maybe there was something I missed? I may re-watch it only to see if I missed a crucial point that will help me understand why this was getting so much attention. There is one positive about this film, and that is the soundtrack. I did enjoy listening to Beyoncé's Crazy in Love remix, even though it was slightly spoiled by the sight of Ana getting rammed from behind, to say the least.
